Class 8A Final Fours
The largest class in the state from 2011 to 2021.
Class 8A
2011: Plant (c), Fletcher, Miramar, Columbus
2012: Apopka (c), Dr. Phillips, Cypress Bay, Columbus (2)
2013: Apopka (2), Plant (2), South Dade (c), Palm Beach Gardens
2014: Apopka (c) (3), Manatee, Columbus (3), Flanagan
2015: Osceola, West Orange, Flanagan (c) (2), Columbus (4)
2016: Dr. Phillips (2), Sanford Seminole, Miami Southridge (c), Deerfield Beach
2017: Dr. Phillips (c) (3), Wekiva, Atlantic, Miami High
2018: Mandarin (c), Sarasota Riverview, Columbus (5), Deerfield Beach (2)
2019: Apopka (4), Steinbrenner, Columbus (c) (6), Deerfield Beach (3)
2020: Sanford Seminole (c) (2), Apopka (5), Osceola (2), Miami Palmetto
2021: Venice (c), Columbus (7) Apopka (6), Treasure Coast
10 different champions in 11 seasons with Apopka being the only team that repeated. I think 5A is still a deeper classification FWIW because the 8A class was basically a Jacksonville/Tampa/Orlando/Broward/Dade dominant class with a Venice exception in 2021. Apopka and Columbus had the most appearances in the Final Four, but only three titles between them. Other teams like Flanagan and South Dade just came in for a year and went away just as quickly.
This classification is more or less the precursor to the "metro" alignment. Some good teams, some good games, but I couldn't look at the 8A class and think that the state would be better served with four separate classes of teams from these areas without neighboring cities and areas being intertwined.
